Haval Jolion Overview

The Haval Jolion crossover is the latest product of Chinese automaker Great Wall Motors. It was released in 2020 and is offered with a hybrid drivetrain.

The Haval Jolion is a five-seat crossover that’s based on the company’s latest platform, which was developed by GWM in conjunction with Haval.

The interior of the Haval Jolion features an all-digital instrument panel and a high-tech infotainment system controlled by voice commands and gestures.

The cabin also features a panoramic sunroof for better visibility and an optional climate control system for all-around comfort during hot summer days.

Haval truly hit a nail on the head on this one, with surprisingly a ton of features and specs for the price including android and apple car play, 360 degrees camera, Wireless Charging, Dynamic Steering, and more.

Haval Jolion Problems

Availability of Parts:

The availability of spare parts for Haval Jolion has been a major concern for many customers.

This is because when you buy an expensive car, you would expect it to be backed by an efficient after-sales service. However, this is not the case with Haval Jolion.

The car lacks a robust after-sales service network and this has affected its sales.

Customers have complained that they have faced issues like long waiting periods before getting their cars repaired or replaced.

Fuel Consumption higher than claimed:

Haval claims that the Jolion consumes 7 liters per 100 km but most people have complained about high fuel consumption.

People have reported that their vehicles consume more than 10 litres per 100km when driven on highways and cities, which is much higher than what was advertised by the company.

Average Sound System:

The sound system in the Jolion is not up to par with other luxury SUVs in its class.

Experts say it is too quiet and does not offer enough bass when playing music through Bluetooth or USB connections.

Engine Power:

Comes with a 1.4l turbocharged engine that outputs 110 KW and 210 Nm, not for people who like speed and power.

The engine is only suitable for city driving and not for those who need to drive long distances although you can comfortably drive long distances with no problems but will likely take you a bit longer and some more effort.

Sluggish Acceleration:

This is a common problem with the Haval Jolion. The car accelerates very slowly and at times, it feels like you are driving a truck.

This can be a major headache especially when you are trying to overtake other vehicles or trying to join a highway.

DCT transmission is likely to fail:

The Haval Jolion is powered by a 4-cylinder 1.5L engine mated to a dual-clutch transmission (DCT).

The problem with this transmission is that it often fails due to a lack of proper lubrication.

This issue has been reported by multiple owners, who have had the same problem with their vehicles.

Customer service:

A lot of complaints about Haval customer service. They tend to be unresponsive and not helpful at all.

If you buy a Haval Jolion then you should not expect the best service with them if something goes wrong with your car or if you need any sort of assistance, but I do believe over time, the Customer service will improve.

My Thoughts

Although the Haval Jolion does have its problems, there are good things about the vehicle that are worth mentioning, including:

  • Price Point
  • Clean and Luxurious interior
  • Lots of Features compared to the competitors of this price point
  • It offers a Quiet and comfortable ride
  •  Impressive Exterior designs and colors
  • Good legroom and decent interior space
  • Plenty of cabin and Boot space

With that said, since the Haval Jolion is a newer vehicle in the market it is crucial to ensure that you get one with a service plan and warranty to avoid unwanted costs should the vehicle break down.

  1. I bought in 2021. My car is the best compare to anyones ?
    But I am little worried about parts.
    My dealer in Rosebery 2018 NSW has closed. So I am having a new issue on servicing. Haval should give us 7 years free servicing.

  2. I have had my car for 2 weeks. This morning I unlocked the car and a loud ear piercing screeching noise was coming from the front left speaker. I drove for 5 minutes the screeching wouldn’t stop, smoke started coming from the speaker. I was very concerned and took the car straight to Southport service centre.
    The Southport service centre manager was rude and needs a serious attitude adjustment. He Couldn’t give me a time that the car would be looked at and expected me to sit around all day in a industrial area with a 3 year old. No car or taxi offered. Bad customer service.
    When I was speaking to the mechanic about the issues I have had with the car this morning he pulled face like a 2 year old. I expressed my concerns and explained we had a 5 hour drive to get home.
    My advice is don’t go there to begin with and steer clear of buying a Haval.

    2. Nailed it. Very very poor after sales service.once they have your money they could not care less.
      Our second service we were told we should had it done on 15000km, but we bought the H2 on 13700km and was told on delivery that they had done the 15000 km , long story short, on the 30000km they picked up that it never had the 15000km service.huge problems, eventually they serviced it but on the 45000km mark.
      So today on the 35000km service interval they wanted us to pay but we have bought an extended service plan.
      So now after a bit of a few words, they will service it,but on the 60000km mark.wtf? This is all as result of them lied about the 15000km service, how could we had the car serviced that time we did not even own ed it yet.
      So yes please think before you spend your money on a Haval
      Never ever again.
      And that’s just the service received,not to mention the lack of power and high fuel consumption.

      1. We’ve bought 3 havals and can’t recommend them more strongly. Have dealt with anything no matter how minor .
        You would need to have log book signed off at that the service was done. If you didn’t then that is your problem not gwm

  3. I have a starting problem with my Jolion, after several attempts it does start after locking/unlocking and putting pressure on the brake paddle.
    The dealers don’t know what the problem is.
    I am more than happy with the vehicle and hope the starting problem will be solved soon. My fuel consumption presently is 7.3L/100km.
    Only done 7200 kilometers and is a 2022 model.

    Is anyone out there who recently owned a Haval jolion hybrid have any issue with locking up the boot?
    After locking the car I was surprised that I can still open the boot.
    If anyone who know how to fix this please advised me.

    1. All Jolion boot will open if key is in pocket
      Put shopping in
      Boot locks
      Walk away
      Amber lights flash indicate locked !

    2. You closed the boot the boot is not locked til you lock the car . If you have your key fob of course it will open, sand as all new cars do

    My car has been with a dealer for three weeks now. I get new stories everyday.The problem is with the fuse.The dealer says the parts are ordered in China.They do no give the estimated time of arrival. I bought this car brand new in 2022 the mileage is 12000.I would not recommend Haval even to my worst enemy.I am very stressed as I have no car.The dealer is in Ladysmith KZN.

  6. I bought a Haval in September 2022 and have had nothing but problems with it. Flat battery after 3 months and now 3 months later car wouldn’t start due to battery problems. They told me it was only the battery but why wouldI need batteries in 6 months.

  7. I bought a Haval Jolion in September 2022 and three months later had to get NRMA to start the car as it has a flat battery. In March 2023 same problem. I have had nothing but problems with this car and I don’t feel confident driving it.

      Vehicle suddenly accelerates hard when it changes gears on take off.
      We have a steep uphill driveway leading into a carport and the vehicle has suddenly accelerated at the top of the driveway requiring heavy breaking to stop hitting the wall at the end of the carport
      The unpredictable throttle response is dangerous.
      The vehicle has locked in first gear and while I was trying to make it change had the in attention alarm going off
      Changing the a/c fan speed requires playing with the touch screen, very distracting.
      Fuel economy has been 8.5km/100 not great.
      Although the cabin is comfortable the throttle is shocking and the technology is to cumbersome for the driver to use safely
      Not impressed and will be happy to return the car
      Would not buy one

    2. Good job they have a great warranty unlike other brands who would say too bad. Strange you say you’ve had various problems as that’s not the case with 99% of haval owners

  8. Whilst driving, the radio volume suddenly jumped from low to maximum and became totally unresponsive. Could not turn it down and would not turn off.
    I shut the motor off and got out of the car but still the volume continued at maximum.
    After a certain time had elapsed , the radio switched off when the battery save mechanism eventually cut in.

  9. I bought haval jolion hybrid in sept 2022, It has a problem of rear view mirror. The mirror doe not have room to rotate or adjustment to see rear view. Tried many times to contact but no response.

    1. Very unusual comment, I have never heard any haval owner ever gave any complaint about their rear view mirror . Especially seeing as this is a basic warranty fix

  10. I bought Jolion may 2022. It encountered a Major and the dealer gave the estimate just double than alternative source. I had to repair it in local workshop. Now they are facing tremendous difficulties to program it. I am waiting for 6 months

    I have a 2021 Julion. It runs well and am very pleased with it. One comment previous said it locked in first. They clearly set in it manual instead of auto. Their fault. If you set the hold function so it does not roll, then it will take some extra grunt to get started. Drivers decision which way they set it. I drive this vehicle to Bendigo from Melbourne with 2 other passengers easily. But… I use 98 octane, makes a big difference.

      I have a 2021 Haval Jolion Ultra. I have had problems with wipers shuddering from the time I purchased. Dealer tried to fix it several times but failed. Haval Head office advised me to use a quality washer. Other than that there is no solution, that too has not fixed the problem. Since yesterday Hill Holder/Assist is not working. My service is due next month, let’s see what they do then.
