Mercedes A7 Service [Checklist & What to Expect]

Regular servicing of your Mercedes Benz is essential to ensuring the smooth running, long life, reliability, and high resale value of your car.

As an auto technician, I have seen many Mercedes Benz owners who neglect their cars. They drive them until they break down, then they take them to a mechanic and hope that the problem will be fixed.

The problem with this approach is that you may not be getting the best service possible, and your car may end up costing more in the long run.

In this article, I am going to explain what a Mercedes Benz” A7 service” is and what’s included. let’s get to it.

What is A7 Service on a Mercedes?

In short, the A7 service is part of your Mercedes maintenance schedule, and it is required at least once every 12-24 months or when the “Service A7” maintenance message comes up on your dashboard.

The A7 is basically an A service with a few extra tasks added to it. The number 7 indicates the 7 other maintenance tasks that are done on your Mercedes Benz.

What is Included in the Mercedes A7 Service?

let’s now take a look at what the technicians do during this particular service. The Mercedes A7 includes the following items:

Engine Oil Change

The first step of the Mercedes A7 service is to change the engine oil and filter.

The technician will remove all of the old oil, replace it with new synthetic oil, and then clean out the filter housing.

Changing the oil is crucial to the longevity of your engine, as it helps to prevent corrosion, wear, and tear and cools the internal components.

The oil also lubricates all of the moving parts within your engine so that they can operate smoothly and efficiently.

Engine Oil Filter Change

Next, the technician will change your engine’s oil filter.

This is another important step in maintaining your vehicle, as the filter traps small particles of debris and contaminants that would otherwise get into the engine oil and cause damage to the engine.

Transmission Oil Replacement

Since this is an A7 Service it means the tech will change your transmission fluid.

Transmission fluid is a special type of oil that protects the internal parts of your vehicle’s transmission, keeping them cool and lubricated.

If you don’t regularly replace this fluid, it can become dirty which may cause damage to your car’s transmission.

Transmission Filter Replacement

The transmission filter is a small piece of material that keeps contaminants out of your transmission fluid. The technician will replace this filter and make sure it’s working correctly.

Tire Inspection

Next, the tech will check the tires on your vehicle.

The pressure and tread of your tires are important indicators of the overall condition of your vehicle.

If the technician notices that one or more of your tires is low on air pressure, he or she will fill it up for you.

If there is damage to any of your tires such as cracks in the sidewall or a bulge in the tread they will recommend replacing them as soon as possible to prevent further damage from occurring.

Brake Inspection

The mechanic will inspect the brakes of your car and make sure they are in good working order.

They will also check for any leaks around the brake system, which can cause damage to other components of your Mercedes.

Brake Fluid Change

The brake fluid is also changed as part of the Mercedes A7 service, the brake fluid is very important in the operation of your car’s brakes.

The technician will flush out and replace the Mercedes brake fluid with a new supply of fluid that meets the manufacturer’s specifications.

Coolant Flush

Engine coolant is essential to keeping your Mercedes engine at the right temperature.

The technician will flush out and replace the old coolant with the new coolant.

Maintenance Service Count Reset

The final step in the Mercedes A7 service is to reset the maintenance indicator.

This helps keep track of when you need to bring your vehicle back for another service.

The technician will reset the maintenance indicator on your Mercedes and give it a once-over to make sure everything is working correctly.

Mercedes A7 Service Cost

Finally, let’s look at how much it cost to do an A7 Service on a Mercedes.

The price will vary greatly based on the country you are in, however, from my experience A7 service costs anywhere between $420- $600 (£350-£500) for the whole service.

This includes the cost of parts and labor, however, if you have a warranty then you may be able to get some of this money back later on down the road.

  1. My 2018 Mercedes Benz GLC 220, with 47000 km on the clock, had an A7 service at MSL, Pottery Road, Dublin on 11th May 2023. When I went to collect it I was presented with a bill for €1,330. When booking the car in for the A7 service I had been quoted €479. The issue seemed to be that MSL, the main MB dealership in Dublin did not consider the transmission oil and filter change as part of the A7 service and were charging €900 extra for this ‘customer requested’ part of the service. After some very ‘tense’ discussions, the bill was reduced to the €479 quoted on the phone.
